This month, we are highlighting the contributions of Michael Smith, our Vice President of Regional Systems in the Sunbelt Region. Michael recently celebrated his 30th anniversary at CorVel!
Michael’s career at CorVel has evolved since his start as a Systems Support/Bill Review Analyst at our Jackson, Mississippi, office in 1993. Only five months later, he accepted the role of Bill Revew Manager/Systems Manager and made a move to our Sunrise, Florida office. Michael took advantage of his opportunity to grow in that role by honing his leadership skills and expanding his systems expertise. This led to his promotion to Regional Systems Manager for the Southern Region. Since then, his contributions and leadership have propelled him to his current Vice President position.
During his 30-year tenure at the company, what has stood out the most to Michael is the collaborative and inclusive work environment at CorVel. “I love the open door of management and interacting with members at all levels. I also love that ideas by all members of the CorVel team are truly valued and rewarded,” he explains, adding that the people at CorVel are like a big family.
Over the years, Michael’s expertise has been instrumental in the rollout of new services. Michael created the initial billing system for physical therapy and durable medical equipment (DME) that CorVel utilized for many years before evolving and integrating into our advanced claims management system, CareMC Edge.
A fun fact about Michael is that before his contributions to CorVel, he contributed to his local community as a Boy Scout. At the time, he was one of the few members of his troop to be the youngest in his city to become an Eagle Scout at age 14!
