CorVel Launches Web-based Absence Management Tools

IRVINE, Calif., April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- CorVel Corporation (Nasdaq: CRVL), a national healthcare management company, today announced the launch of an Absence Management tool for employers seeking improved control of such costs. Absence Management is a tool within CorVel's CareMC managed care website. CareMC provides a managed care portal in which employers, patients, payors and providers can work together to optimize disability claims' outcomes.

CareMC includes an "incident reporting" module into which employers can enter the details of employee absences and causal factors. CareMC includes an artificial intelligence engine which permits the processing of incoming incident reports to be screened and sorted using guidelines from the employer, standard medical practices and state or federal guidelines. The reporting process can be tailored to reflect the unique employer or industry needs involved.

Information gathered in CareMC is immediately available to benefits management personnel, insurers, patients and treating physicians. Communications are encrypted and processed according to HIPAA standards. Further compliance with state requirements for the reporting of work-related injuries, as well as compliance with OSHA regulations, is included. By integrating such reporting with the requirements of the employer's insurers, CareMC simplifies and automates employer compliance with government and insurer reporting specifications. Information gathered in this manner facilitates the prompt and accurate initiation of managed care processes in support of the patient.

CorVel is a leading preferred provider organization (PPO) and managed care service organization, providing service in 49 states. Information gathered through incident reports helps eliminate errors in data later shared with providers and other caregivers. CareMC, in addition to collecting such information, can also accept reports from physicians regarding patient status, process orders for items needed by the patient and process the billings for such services.

"CareMC gives employers an easy way to report incidents at work without having to install or maintain software and systems," said Tom Benson, CorVel's Vice President of Information Systems. "Once the report is in CareMC, we connect that information into all the appropriate benefit plans," continued Mr. Benson.

CareMC can be customized to match the corporate identity of each employer, and be connected with Human Resource systems. For instance, when integrated with the employer's payroll system, users of the site can be assured of having accurate employee identification, including all related demographics. Increasingly, the integration of systems is possible and CareMC is designed to make such connections easy and efficient. The elimination of data errors and the time delays involved with paper processing, are two of the big advantages of moving to web-based processing. Summary reports of injury experience help employers better understand how to improve safety results. By tracking both occupational and non-occupational absences, CareMC enables much improved absence and productivity management.

About CareMC
In addition to providing easy absence reporting, the CareMC website also provides both web-based and phone-based "look-up" capabilities to employees seeking care from provider networks preferred by their benefit and workers' compensation plans. By integrating all of the managed care services involved in an episode of care, CareMC extends the value in the automated processing of incident reporting to other components of claims management.
