On Monday, CVS Pharmacy announced plans to offer next-day delivery from CVS Pharmacy locations nationwide in 2018, a move that some feel is a result of the anticipation of Amazon’s arrival, which has been widely predicted by Wall Street, according to the Washington Post.
“Our goal is to meet the needs of all of our customers wherever, however and whenever they want,” said Helena Foulkes, Executive Vice President of CVS Health and President of CVS Pharmacy, in the company’s press release. “Providing same and next-day options for delivery of medications is just another way we can help our patients get and stay healthy.”
Beginning in December, CVS Pharmacy will offer free, same-day delivery service within Manhattan. The same-day service is to expand to Miami, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, DC and San Francisco in early 2018. Additionally, next-day delivery will become available nationwide over the course of next year.
This on-demand prescription delivery service is a convenience for consumers, but a benefit many say is facilitated by competition.
“Amazon is thought to pose the biggest near-term threat to retail pharmacies such as CVS, Walgreens Boots Alliance or Walmart,” according to the article.
